This Case Study is built around the development of original 4k programming for the new Contemporary Living Network. The network will be delivered to the audience via digital distribution to any device so a full end-to-end 4k / UHD pipeline was needed. The programs are predominantly shot documentary / reality style involving not only multiple cameras, but also multiple types of cameras. With the wealth of data expected from each episode, a plan had to be devised to not only organize each episode, but to ensure that all the media for all programming across the network would have unique file names matched back to each series. Why? With multiple editors all working from the same storage and a lot of the same media, we wanted to make sure that when a project is brought back in the future, each clip is associated with the unique, easy to identify file so there are no ‘surprises’ later on. The last thing you want are 100 episodes all containing multiple 00000.xyz file.
This real world example will walk through how “Ice Cream Nation” and “Fork U” were organized starting before the first frame of video was event shot to the time the footage arrived into the shop till it was archived. No transcoding is being used in the production of CLN; all materials are being edited natively. The projects in this Case Study feature Panasonic GH4, GoPro and Blackmagic 4k Cinema Camera footage.

Premiere is very customizable with a made to order feel. If you know where to look you can find many gems to speed up your workflows. If you take the right steps, add the correct metadata, and create templates this will make your media faster to work with. We will cover editing visually, building montages, organizing with search bins, modifying batches of media with templates, speed ramping, color grading with LUTs, working in a “job based” workspace.
Focusing on the creative is the goal in post, not be concerned with how to edit but to improve your speed. Enjoying the creative part will allow you to be in sync with the visual story not being tied up with the technical hurdles.

Possibly the most powerful feature in the current version of Premiere Pro, and the feature most of us have been requisition for some time, this workshop will introduce editors to this incredible color tool. With apologies to my very good Colorist friends, this workshop is geared towards editors who have relied on third party tools because you just don’t have the time or the desire to dive into “proper color grading techniques.” So often we editors are against deadline after deadline and it’s just so easy to “throw a look on there” and call it done. Not only is Lumetri a great new way to color grade within Premiere Pro, it’s wickedly fast as well. This workshop will lay out the basics of the tool itself and give you some great insight on how to use Lumetri effectively in your workflow to create stunning color grades and looks.
We’ll go through the basics of the controls and then break down some common issues and fixes that editors face, break down some quick ‘enhancements’ that will impress your clients, and break down some advanced looks that can be created very quickly and easily for those projects where you really have the time and desire to “take the scene up a notch.” Color isolation, change color, and some tips on using multiple levels of the Lumetri tool. Color is just as much a part of storytelling as sound and camera. Adobe has given you a tool and speed to add more polish to your work. This workshop will make you feel comfortable adding Lumetri to your workbench and you might even fall in love with color grading. Maybe.
Explore the new features added to Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015. Producers, Editors, Assistant Editors, can all work in sync using a single application from set to post.
Great edit sessions come with good collaboration, and understanding.

It’s incredible to me how many people don’t utilize the power of Transfer Modes in their everyday editing. Often just used to overlay light leaks or film grain, transfer modes can completely change the way you finish your projects and tell your stories. Utilizing nothing more than some production elements, textures and ‘stuff’ you probably have lying around your edit suite, you can enhance transitions and create color grades and looks, add environment and depth to your scenes.
It’s a bit like watercolor painting, sometimes a single application is enough and other times, you build the look layer by layer. Oftentimes you achieve unexpected and wonderful results just by “playing.” Transfer Modes is a powerful tool and we’ll start out with the film grains and light leaks and then work our way to creating looks, textures, environments and overall finishing and storytelling techniques, all through the power of the Transfer Modes. It’s one of the simplest and most powerful tools you have at your fingertips in Premiere Pro. This workshop is for the editor who is looking to step up their game in the edit suite and create unique and custom looks that rise above the clutter yet keeps you focused on the task at hand.
Discover all the ways you can optimize your hardware and software performance using tips from this class including: selecting the right GPU for your system, getting PC video cards to work in Mac towers, upgrading your drives to SSD’s, using PCIe SSDs, maximizing the Mercury Playback engine, enabling the CUDA Render System information display, and so much more. This class is not to be missed!

• Adjust any AE plug-in from within Premiere and control Graphs and Charts
• Turn AE comp layers on and off in Premiere
• Self-adjusting Lower Third backgrounds that adapt to the length and size of the text
• Automatic versioning of AE comps from within Premiere and much, much more
Now that the job is finished – how do you put it away for long-term storage? What happens when you inherit someone else’s project? Or if you only want to keep (or handoff) just the main sequence? Jeff I. Greenberg will help you explore the Project manager and dig deep into picking the right choices – Should you rename the media? Should you store the Previews? Loads of Q&A in this session will help you do the last step of every project – figure out how to best keep it forever.
Perfect for every editor who wants something smarter than just copying the whole hard drive!
When you hear the phrase: “Don’t worry we’ll fix it in post” A red light should go off above your head. Those who say that don’t really solve the problem – apparently the burden will fall upon you. But despite all this, there are still quite a few things that can be solved at a post stage, and this workshop will teach you how to do so with no effort at all. We’ll touch on re-lighting, flicker and banding problems, shaky footage, cosmetic skin issues, video noise, color matching and even common audio problems.
Take away:
Quick fixes for bad or problematic footage that otherwise are not usable.
Documentaries, reality shows, corporate videos and your YouTube Channel… if you’re shooting ‘real life’ footage ‘on the run’ then you’ll probably slam into a handful of color correction challenges – over and over again. Learn how a professional colorists solves those problems—and keep their images compelling.

Where things are today, current and upcoming high profile customer wins and our leaderships vision for what the future holds for professional video editing at Adobe.
Similar to last year we will talk about the process of prioritizing features for inclusion in upcoming releases, how much attention is given to each and every feature request, what are JDIs, etc. We will also cover the different teams that make up Premiere Pro including managers, UX design, engineers, and quality engineers and what all of us “do”.
Our theories about the development of color workflows in Premiere Pro with a guest demo of HDR from Dolby (very impressive and exciting – our whole Premiere Pro team experienced this over the summer and it was awesome!) as well as what we’re working on, our methodology and ask for feedback/in-put as to what the attendees think about how we’re approaching it.
We will chose a selection of “small” features that we consider JDIs (Just do it) and work to code them along with the smaller groups, with opportunities for feedback and questions around how that feature is made. Registrants may be polled ahead of time to find out which JDIs are of most interest.
We’ll provide a few different buckets of features and breakout into 2 sessions where we’ll present how we’re thinking about those aspects of Premiere Pro, what we’re working on, our methodology and ask for feedback/in-put as to what the attendees think about how we’re approaching it.
Based on feedback from registration questionnaire we’ll pick one to three workflows that the majority deem of interest or especially perplexing and have the engineers who are focusing on those workflow present our methodology, assumptions and direction of feature development for those workflow. We’ll then ask for feedback from the audience as to what they think about how we’re tackling it.
